Episode #2 – Oct. 23, 2013

I kick off this week’s show with a “lost” recording from a very limited edition EP jointly released by Jack Norton and Ben Weaver. This show also showcases cuts from classic country devotees The Cactus Blossoms, Winona native Joe Kujawa’s freak-folk & synth pop project Breakaway, Wisconsin-based Brit-poppers Neon, Winonans Pat Costello and Annie McLoone,  Twin Cities indie-rockers Communist Daughter, and Winona progessive alt-rock act Wake Up Bedhead.

The Communist Daughter track is a lovely rendition of the song “Knuckles” by the one of the most wretched-sounding bands ever (in my opinion),  The Hold Steady. The Communist Daughter cover illuminates the problem with the Hold Steady (in my opinion) is not their songwriting, but rather their arrangements and tone deaf scream-talking.
